7 Weeks of Recruit Life
Hi Exia. It’s been a while since I last update my blog. I had been away for a while to serve my Country in National Service. Well it’s a compulsory thing for all Singaporean men. What can I say, just serve for 2 years then fuck off.
I was posted to Civil Defense Academy supposedly on the 7th July 2009 but due to my high fever and flu, my enlistment day was push forward on the 9th July 2009.
At around 0800hrs, I reported at CMPB Headquarters. I waited like 5hrs long till someone pick us up to CDA. The process was quick and the next thing I know, I was posted to Alpha Company Platoon 3. To what I heard so far, Alpha was known as Alpha Kilat or also known as fit squad. First 3 days, everyone was sorted out to their individual vocation. It was either ERS or Fire Fighters. Since I was late enlistee, I was not selected as part of the vocation. Disappointment was the easiest to be described. Well even so, we still have to move on. I look around and familiarizes with the people I’m going to be with for the rest of my 7 weeks in Basic Rescue Training Center (BRTC).
1st and 2nd Weeks were relaxed. It was part of the introduction and also for all the new recruits to adapt to the new environment quickly. After the 3rd Week, All kind of shit was given to us. Endurance, perseverance and team work. That’s what I learn.
The 3rd week, I was selected as Platoon IC for Platoon 2 (Dragon Company). I work my magic since I have some experience in the past Uniform Group. Sooner or later, I was given a nick name as IC Kilat. Sounds cool but I have to keep up with my standard. The way I work was sharp and fast. Ensure whatever I do, the results are positive. Follow up weeks; we learn to become a rescuer. We learn First Aid, the equipments that were needed to be use at times there’s an accident occurs, overcome the pressure and work things out quickly and as a team.
Along the way, there’s SOC, IPPT and REPT test. Damn!! It was Sucks… Other than that, the usual wake up morning like around 0515 at Company line to have our water parade. After that it was 5BX time. Follow up was Morning Breakfast. Next was to clean up our bunks for bunk inspection then the morning activities. Morning activities can be rescue training or strength training, weight training or endurance training. Then we have lunch follow up with afternoon activities. By around 1800hrs, we can relax and prepare for dinner. Around 1930hrs, we have water parade. During the following weeks, there was also night training for a selected group. These are the group that is going to represent the company for the foot drill competition. I was 1 of them. We train hard for the whole weeks every night.

On the 6th Week, we had Final X. That’s where we apply all the recue and first aid training we had for the past few weeks. Those who don’t pay attention in class, suffers. I manage to apply all and maintain sharp. Wohoo...
The day before our POP, we had Canadian Pizza’s. We had a so called reunion with our instructors. We had a slow and open talk with them. It was a blast. It was kind of emotional but it was memorable. The shit we went through together like get fuck upside down by the instructors because of our mischievous act. This are the moment that I will never forget.
See u guys on Monday for our posting...
